What is the Koala Soul Mate mattress made of?

This mattress is made of 4 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:

• A kloudcell comfort layer that can regulate your body’s heat so you sleep cool during the night. This layer is flippable which allows you to choose the feel of your mattress. The two options are medium-firm and firm.
• A bamboo charcoal memory foam layer that can provide your body with the needed pressure relief. Charcoal has antimicrobial properties and helps memory foam to stay cool.
• A layer made of adaptive foam springs that can support your body without compromising their famous zero disturbance tech. They have created a 5-zone system for tailored support for demanding areas like your hips and shoulders.
• An edge-to-edge foam base that improves edge support so you have the same performance across all corners.

The Koala Soul Mate mattress measures 33cm in height so you should make sure you have the right sheets for it. All foams used here follow the Certi-Pur standards so they are free from nasty chemicals.

What is the cover made of?

The cover of this mattress is made of 62% Polyester and 38% Viscose PCM (Phase Change Material). This blend is called Sensapole® and it has the ability to regulate your body’s heat very efficiently. That means that it’s perfect for the Australian weather and Koala chose wisely here. The cover feels very soft but at the same time, it’s a material that will last for long. It shares the same design with the Koala Calm As mattress and it’s one I personally like. Unfortunately, this is not a removable cover and if you want to clean it, you should use a mild detergent and spot-clean it where needed. Overall, this is a fantastic cover and Koala did a great job here.

How does it feel?

Let’s continue now with this Koala Soul Mate mattress review and talk about its feel. This mattress allows you to adjust the feel according to your needs. The two options you have is medium-firm and firm. To change the feel, just flip the upper comfort layer and you are set to go. I need to mention here that the two options are quite similar and they are not too different. Let’s talk now about the different sleeping positions and how this mattress performed.

Starting from the back position as always, I felt that the mattress supported me well and I was very comfortable. Pressure relief was great and the sleeping surface remained cool.

Turning to the side position, the foam springs adjusted quickly and that helped my spine alignment. The mattress distributed my weight evenly and the support was good.

Finally moving to the stomach position, the mattress was firm enough to support my hips and shoulders. If you are on the heavier side, you should go for the firmer option as I think it will do a better job in this position. Overall, this is a mattress that will suit every sleeping position and it’s a great all-rounder.

If you are a couple, the Soul Mate mattress has excellent edge support and the foam-only construction translates to minimal motion transfer. For those two reasons, this mattress is an excellent choice for couples.

Does it get hot during the night?

Koala is an Australian brand and they fully understand the Aussie climate. For this reason, they made sure that the Soul Mate mattress is built with materials that allow airflow. However, this is not it. This mattress is made with Sensapole® Phase Change Technology which keeps you at the optimum sleeping temperature. That means that you can sleep more comfortably regardless of the season. This is a very advanced cooling system and an important reason to consider getting this mattress.

What type of bed can I use with this mattress?

If you decide to buy this mattress, you don’t need a special setup but you should make sure that the bed frame that you use can provide your mattress with plenty of support. I prefer to use slatted frames but I am now tempted to try one of Koala’s bed frames that look very stylish and are well-made.

Is this another boxed mattress?

All Koala mattresses come packed in a box. However, the Soul Mate mattress will be delivered inside 2 separate boxes. The first one will contain the base layer and the second one the comfort layer. Once you unpack them, all you have to do is assemble them using the instructions in the video below.

If you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, they offer a 4-hour delivery service that is one of the fastest in Australia. For other areas, delivery is also very fast but if you live in regional areas, you might have to pay a fee. In my case, it was around 7 hours and I remind you that I live in Sydney.
