In this Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress review, I will talk about this premium option that got my attention recently. This is the mid-range model in the Dusk & Dawn range that also includes the cheaper Dusk and Dawn Essential and the more premium Dusk and Dawn Signature.
Awarded “Best Mattress for Couples” for 2023
The Premiere mattress is a hybrid one and it’s available in two firmness profiles. You can either choose the medium option that is more comfortable or the firmer option that is more supportive. For this review, I will focus on the medium option so you should be aware of it. My mattress arrived about two weeks ago so it’s a good time now to move to the full review below.

What is this mattress made of?
The Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress is made of 7 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A Dusk-Air Tech layer that allows airflow but also adds comfort. Moreover, this layer is anti-bacterial and anti-dust mite so this mattress is great for allergy sufferers. It features excellent temperature-regulating abilities which help greatly with the demanding Australian weather.
- An Eco-Air foam layer that is designed to keep the sleeping surface cool during the night.
- An Elasta gel foam layer that will provide your body with the needed pressure relief.
- An A-Grade comfort foam layer that will hug your body and provide it with comfort. It’s also there to connect the above and below layers.
- An HD comfort layer that can regulate the body’s heat but also adds comfort.
- A layer made of pocket springs with 5 targeted zones. This system will support your body where you need it the most. This type of spring minimizes motion transfer.
- A firm foam box that encases the whole mattress. It’s there to improve edge support.
The mattress measures 33cm in height so it’s a thick one. All foams used to make this mattress are GECA certified. The image below shows the inside of the Dusk & Dawn Premiere mattress.
How good is the cover?
The cover of this mattress is made of a comfort stretch fabric that feels soft and looks quite premium. However, it’s a durable fabric that is very breathable so your mattress will stay cool during the night. On the upper sides, they have added a 3D mesh gusset which increases airflow and it’s one of the best features this cover has. When designing it, they wanted to add a premium character so the cover has a two-tone colourway. The upper part is white with the sides being black. This is a great design and I personally loved it. As you expect, this cover is not removable so you should only spot clean it with mild detergent. Overall, it’s a fantastic cover and it’s easy to understand that this is a premium mattress.
How firm is the Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress?
Moving on with this Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress review, it’s time we talk about its firmness. As I mentioned before, this mattress is available in 2 options, but we will only talk about the ‘medium’ choice for this review. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say it’s a 6.5 with 10 being really firm. Let’s see now how this mattress performed in the different sleeping positions.
Starting from the back position, the mattress supported my spine and it did a great job with my weight distribution. Pressure relief was good and it was very comfortable in this position.
Turning to the side position, sinkage increased which helped me get a better spine alignment. The zoned system worked well and I didn’t feel any discomfort on my side parts. I actually felt that this mattress would be great for side sleepers.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress did a great job again with my weight distribution. However, I felt that the firmer option would do better for me in this position but of course, that depends on your weight. Pressure relief was great and overall, I think this mattress is good for all sleeping positions.
One of the main strengths of the Premiere mattress is its edge support. That makes it ideal for couples or heavier people. In addition, the pocket springs minimise the motion transfer so you won’t face significant partner disturbance.
What type of setup should I use with this mattress?
This mattress doesn’t need a special base to work with but you should make sure it gets proper support so it can work at its best. I personally use a slatted frame but you can also use upholstered and divan beds. You can also use your floor but this is not very hygienic so I would not advise that.
Is this a boxed mattress?
Unlike most mattresses on this site, the Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress is not a boxed one. The way it’s constructed doesn’t allow it to be compressed and squashed into a box. It will be delivered for free if you live in the Metro areas but for regional areas, there is a $180 added cost. When you order one, you can also choose to have your old mattress removed. This will cost you $70 and if you want to have your base recycled too, you will pay an extra $35. Mine came after 5 working days and the process was straightforward. Communication was great and overall, I was quite happy with the service I got from Dusk & Dawn.
Does the Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress come with a trial period?
All Dusk and Dawn mattresses come with a 100-night comfort guarantee that gives you plenty of time to try your mattress and decide later whether you are happy with it or not. If for any reason, you are not happy with it, they will come and pick it up, adjust the firmness and then return it to you. This is great, especially for people who are not sure what to choose when they buy this mattress. I remind you there are 2 options; ‘Comfy Medium’ and ‘Firm Support’. This is a great service from Dusk and Dawn and I loved the fact that you can ask them to try another comfort feel.
How much will it cost me?
The Premiere mattress is available in 5 sizes so you have a number of options to choose from. The smaller size (Single) sells for $1,649 with the bigger (King) going for $2,349. However, they run frequent promotions so you won’t have to pay the full price. For example, at the moment of writing a Queen size would cost you $1,749. The table below has pricing information for all available sizes.
|Single||92 x 188 x 33cm||$1,649|
|King Single||107 x 203 x 33cm||$1,949|
|Double||138 x 188 x 33cm||$2,049|
|Queen||153 x 203 x 33cm||$2,149|
|King||183 x 203 x 33cm||$2,349|
Is the Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress any good?
Completing now this Dusk and Dawn Premiere mattress review, it’s time I share my final thoughts with you. In my opinion, this would be a great choice for everyone looking for:
- An Australian-made mattress built with high-quality materials.
- A hybrid mattress that is available in 2 different firmness options.
- A mattress that is designed for all sleeping positions.
If you look for all these, the Premiere mattress can be a great choice. The ability to choose the firmness of your mattress is what separates it from the competition and Dusk and Dawn wanted to allow customers to have a more bespoke sleeping experience. Being built in Australia might raise the cost but if you have the budget for it, this is an option you should definitely consider.
