Koala, one of the most popular brands in Australia has just released a new mattress. This sits at the top of their range and in this Koala Luxe mattress review, I am going to talk about it in detail.
After releasing several successful models including the Koala Plus mattress, they decided it was the right time to develop a proper premium option. This is how the Koala Luxe mattress was born and according to the maker, it will redefine luxury sleep. Mine arrived almost a week ago so it’s time to move to the detailed review below.
What are the layers of this mattress?
The Koala Luxe mattress is made of 3 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A Copper comfort layer that has excellent cooling properties. As its name suggests this layer adds comfort.
- A 9cm Kloudcell layer that has pressure-relieving properties but can also support.
- A 7-zone support core that is the base of this mattress. It’s made with zero-disturbance tech that prevents couples from disturbing each other during sleep.

Does it come with a nice cover?
The cover of this mattress is made of 69% Recycled Polyester, 28% Viscose and 3% Cashmere. This is an interesting blend that gives a more premium character to this mattress. Additionally, it’s a breathable blend that will keep the sleeping surface cool during the night. If I am honest, I feel that this is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen. At the top, there is a plush topper that adds extra comfort and gives a proper premium character to this mattress. The cover feels very soft and it has a light beige colour with pine-green details.
The bad news is that this cover is not removable so you can not clean it with your washing machine. Instead, if you get a stain, you should use a mild detergent with a dump cloth to spot-clean it. On the sides, the people at Koala have added 4 handles that will help you move it. This is a relatively heavy mattress so these will be much needed. Overall, this is a fantastic cover that you will definitely love.
How firm is this mattress?
I want to continue writing this Koala Luxe mattress review and discuss its feel. Unlike the other Koala mattresses, this one doesn’t come with an adjustable feel. The Koala Luxe has a medium-firm feel and if I use my virtual scale here, I would say it’s a 6.5 with 10 being really firm. I want to talk now about my experience with it during the past week.
Lying on my back, the topper hugged my hips and shoulders and I felt very comfortable in this position. I wasn’t sinking into the mattress and the support was great. Moreover, there was no pressure on my joints which helped my spine rest better.
Turning to the side position, the topper made sure that there was no discomfort in the hip area. The Kloudcell layer helped my spine align correctly and I felt that support remained good.
Finally, turning to the stomach position, the sleeping surface wasn’t firm enough but the support remained excellent. As a result, I felt well sleeping this way and I can say that the Koala Luxe mattress will suit every sleeping position.
This mattress is a solid construction so you should expect great edge support. Additionally, the lack of springs means minimal motion transfer so you won’t disturb your partner during sleep.
Will I pay for delivery?
One of the reasons that Koala is considered such a good brand is because they offer a great service. When you buy a mattress from them, they will offer you free delivery regardless of your home address. That includes Metro, Regional and Rural areas. This is impressive and not many makers offer that. Depending on your location, delivery times can be very different.
For Metro areas, they even offer a free same-day delivery service but for Regional and Rural areas, delivery times can reach up to 10-15 days. In my case, it was only one day as I am based in Sydney. The courier was very friendly and I was informed about every step of the process via email and text. Overall, I was happy with their service so no complaints from my side.
Can I try this at home?
Buying a mattress online can make some people feel uncomfortable and for this reason, the people at Koala offer a 120-night trial period that gives you plenty of time to try it at home. Returns are free and if this mattress doesn’t satisfy you, you can return it and get a full refund. All returned mattresses are either headed to Koala Second Home or donated to those in need. If they cannot be used again, they are recycled.
