If you are looking for an affordable option, this Koala Plus mattress review is all you need to read. The popular Aussie maker just released this new mattress and it’s one that looks very promising.
The Plus mattress follows the same recipe as the rest of the Koala range so you should expect a foam-only mattress. It comes with an adjustable feel but more on that later. I ordered my Koala Plus mattress some weeks ago so it’s about time, I write this review.

Who is the Koala Plus mattress suitable for?
- People looking for a mattress that sleeps hot in the winter and cool in the summer.
- Sleepers who want a mattress with an adjustable feel.
- Those looking for high levels of pressure relief.
- Couples that don’t want to disturb each other during the night.
What are the layers of this mattress?
This mattress is made of 3 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A seasonal flippable topper that allows you to sleep cooler or warmer. This is very useful for Australia which has big temperature fluctuations between the winter and summer months.
- A Kloudcell™ Comfort Layer that has two sides that allow you to change its feel. You can choose between a medium-firm side or a firm side.
- A base foam layer that features a 5-zone system. This promises tailored support but also pressure relief for your spine, hips and shoulders.
The Koala Plus mattress measures 28cm in height and all foams used to make it are CertiPUR-US® certified. That ensures that they are free from harmful substances.
Does it feature a nice cover?
The cover of this mattress is an interesting one. It features a flippable top part that has two sides, a summer one and a winter one. If you use the former, Koala claims that you will sleep 13% cooler than leading online mattress brands. Although this is hard to compare as a user, I must admit that the Koala Plus mattress sleeps cool and it’s definitely one of the better-adapted mattresses when it comes to the Aussie climate. Moreover, the cover feels quite soft and it definitely has a premium character.
Unfortunately, it’s not removable and if you want to clean it you should use mild detergent and a dump cloth. Furthermore, there are no side handles and this is the second drawback here. At the bottom, they have added an anti-slip base that will keep this mattress in place. Overall, I feel that this is an innovative cover but it lacks some important details that would make it a really perfect one.
Is this a firm mattress?
I want to continue writing this Koala Plus mattress review and discuss its feel. As I have mentioned before, this mattress allows you to change its firmness by just flipping the Kloudcell comfort layer. By doing so, you can choose between a medium-firm or firm setup. I have to state here that the difference between the two sides is not huge. Let’s talk now about my experience with it for the past two weeks.
Lying on my back, the mattress did a good job distributing my weight evenly. I was comfortable in this position and my spinal alignment was neutral.
Turning to the side position, the mattress adjusted relatively quickly and I felt that support was good. Sinkage increased and that helped my spine to align correctly.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress supported my hips and shoulders and that made me feel comfortable. However, I would advise front sleepers to choose the firm setup as it’s best suited to this position. Overall, the Koala Plus mattress is a good all-rounder that won’t disappoint.
If you sleep with your partner, the Plus mattress has minimal motion transfer as it features zero springs. On the other hand, edge support is decent so I would say that this mattress is a couple-friendly option.
Is this a cooling mattress?
As I have already mentioned before, the Koala Plus mattress has a high-tech cover that has two sides. The first is ideal for winter and the second is ideal for summer. Underneath the cover, the Kloudcell layer is breathable and can regulate heat. This means that the sleeping surface will stay cool even during the hot summer months. The engineers at Koala managed to build an efficient cooling system here and it’s not a coincidence that this mattress is so popular among hot sleepers.
How much will I pay for delivery?
One of the main reasons you should buy a Koala mattress is the free delivery service that they offer. That includes Metro, Rural and Regional areas! This is quite impressive and it shows that the people at Koala value their customers. If you live in Metro areas, you are eligible for free next-day delivery which is a nice perk.
Koala also offers a premium service for customers in metro areas of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. This includes the setup of your new mattress in the room of your choice and the removal of all rubbish. This will cost you an extra $199 but you will have peace of mind.
Can I try it at home?
Buying a mattress online can feel risky for some people but thankfully, Koala offers a 120-night trial period. That gives you 4 months to try it at home so you will definitely understand whether this is the right fit or not. If you are not satisfied with this purchase, you can return it and get your money back. The return is a hassle-free process and all you have to do is contact them and they will arrange everything for you.
Moreover, all Koala mattresses come with a 10-year warranty. This is what most makers offer these days but it shows that you will be covered for a long time. Before you buy a mattress from them, it would be wise to read their terms and conditions. Overall, this is a comprehensive package that follows the industry standards.
Is this an expensive mattress?

Who should buy the Koala Plus mattress?
I am ready to complete this Koala Plus mattress review and share my final thoughts with you. In my opinion, this would be a great option for those looking for:
- A customisable mattress that comes with two different firmness profiles.
- A cooling mattress that is built for both the summer and winter months.
- A mattress that comes with a 120-night trial period.
The Koala Plus mattress is an innovative new option that is a great addition to an already complete range. It addresses one of the main needs of Australian sleepers and it does that by using a clever and practical system. If you are looking for a high-quality cooling mattress, this is definitely one to consider.
Alternatives to consider
The Origin Hybrid Pro mattress is another option that comes at a similar price. This is a versatile mattress that is feature-packed and it is designed to suit every type of sleeper. It comes with a hybrid design that combines titanium springs with premium materials. These include micro-weaved wool, latex, bamboo foam and tencel. But the key here is the HexaGrid Plus layer that has the multi-role of providing both comfort and support. The Hybrid Pro mattress comes with a medium-firm feel so it will suit every sleeping position. Moreover, all of the layers have cooling properties so this mattress will sleep cool. Origin offers a great service so you should expect a 15-year warranty, a 120-night trial period and free delivery. Overall, this is a complete package here that comes at a fair price.
Alternatively, the Atlantis mattress is definitely an option to consider. This is a mattress that is fully made in Australia and this is a big reason that many sleepers prefer it. What is interesting about it, is the fact that you can customize the feel of every side. That means you and your partner can choose a different setup so nobody complains. Other than that, the Atlantis mattress features a hybrid design that combines cooling foam layers with pocket springs. The result is a balanced mattress that is built for every sleeping position. If you buy one, you will get a 10-year warranty and a 100-night comfort trial. All of the above make the Atlantis mattress an interesting proposition and it’s definitely one to consider.
